Trinity is currently in the call process and does not have a full time pastor.  Our Interim Pastors, throughout this call process, are Pastor Ralph F. Schibler and Pastor Cathy Schibler.

Pastor Ralph was born in Canton, Ohio in 1935.  In 1953, he graduated from Youngstown South High School. He attended the University of Pennsylvania until 1955 when he transferred to Thiel College in Greenville, Pa.  He graduated from Thiel in 1958.

In 1962, Pastor Ralph graduated from the Hamma School of Theology, Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. He was ordained at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Greenville, Pa. He earned his Doctor in Theology from Ashland Theological Seminary, Ashland, Ohio in 1978.

On May 23, 1959, he married Patricia (Pat) McDermott in Turtle Creek, Pa. They have 4 daughters, 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. 

Since ordination, Pastor has served as Assistant Pastor at Zion Lutheran Church, Canton, Ohio for 5 years. He then served as Mission Redeveloper and Pastor at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Brunswick, Ohio for 15 years.  He then served as Pastor at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Van Wert , Ohio for 20 years. While in Van Wert he also taught History of World Religions at Lutheran School of Allied Health Professions for 10 years. He also monitored 7 Interns. 

Pastor Ralph and Pat moved to Catawba Island upon retirement. He is active in Rotary and served as District Governor in the year 2007-2008. He continues to be active in the Rotary Club of Port Clinton. Since retirement, Pastor Ralph has served as Interim Pastor in numerous congregations. 

Pr. Cathy Pastor Cathy or Pastor Schibler is married to Clayton Keegan. They have three children:  Meredith, Sarah & Jacob.

Pastor Cathy grew up in Brunswick Ohio and was a marching Blue Devil playing flute and piccolo.  From there she went to Wittenberg University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and English. She attended Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus Ohio and has been ordained for 32 years.

Her first call was to Good Shepherd in Vickery, Ohio.  After serving nine years, she was called to the bishop’s staff of the Northwestern Ohio Synod and served for 18 years working with candidates for ministry and with congregations in the call process or conflict. 

After Bishop Lohrmann retired, the ELCA churchwide organization called her to serve at Portico Benefits Services, the ELCA organization that provides health benefits and retirement for our rostered ministers. 

Pastor Cathy sits on the Board of Directors for Wittenberg University.  Trinity Sandusky is her fourth interim serving with her dad, Pastor Ralph Schibler.

The Church Council met on 4/16/2020 by Zoom meeting.

Out of concern for everyone's health and the current gathering restrictions, the decision was made for Trinity to stay closed. The council will revisit the options at their next meeting on 5/21.

Services will continue to be posted weekly on Facebook.


Prayer concerns may be left on the office phone. Messages are checked multiple times throughout the day. If you give permission, your concerns will be shared on Facebook and you will have the full strength of your church members in prayer with you.

If you know of a member in need due to health, money, or food concerns please let the office know.

Margaret D.(Galloway) Lieb, 92, passed away April 28, 2020. She was born June 27,1927 in Sandusky,OH to the late Charles H. Galloway and Lena (Young) Sengstock. She wa preceded in death by her husband Alton "Corky" Lieb. Margaret was a lifelong, active member at Trinity. After her retirement, at the age of 60, she became Trinity's church secretary. Margaret is survived by her daughter, Cindy Bolton of Fulda, MN; son, Gary (Bonnie) Lieb of Sandusky;and several grandchildren.

Mary Ann Wobser

Mary Ann (Brunow) Wobser, 86, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2019 in The Meadows at Osborn Park under the care of Heartland Hospice. She was born March 13, 1933 in Sandusky to Carl and Susie Brunow. On May 15, 1954, she married the love of her life, Fred Wobser, and together they raised three children Amy Lee, James Frederick, and Kevin Charles. Mary was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was a longtime member of the church choir. Mary taught both Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, belonged to the Women’s Group, and served on the Altar Committee.


Ocie Collins
Ocie Collins, 88, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2019. She was born in Maytown, Kentucky, on September 20, 1930, to Lonnie and Poppie (Shepherd) Laferty. She was one of 14 children. On September 20, 1947 she married George Collins, and together they raised 3 children; Carl Eugene, Wilma Fay, and George Edward. Ocie was a long time member of Trinity. She was always willing to serve on the Bereavement Committee making her delicious pies or serving one of her famous desserts.



Robert SesslerRobert Sessler, age 90, of Sandusky, died June 27, 2019 at the Providence Care Center. He was born Oct. 4, 1928, in Sandusky, and was a 1947 graduate of Margaretta High School. He was a retired farmer. He was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He played on the dartball team and served as an usher and on church council. Bob is survived by his wife, the former Nancy Taylor, to whom he was married for 68 years; 3 daughters Susan "Mike" Cullen of Castalia, Sally "David" Warner of Vickery, and Peggy "Tom" Kingsborough of Huron; 3 sons Dennis "Barb" Sessler of Sandusky, Michael Sessler of Marblehead, and  Rev. Scott "Karen" Sessler of Livonia, MI; 18 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren.



Wayne Oliver Wiedenheft , 72, Sandusky, died unexpectedly, March 11, 2019, in his residence. He was born May 7, 1946 to Carlos and Mildred (Opel) Wiedenheft,  He worked for NASA Plum Brook and Davis-Besse.  Wayne was a member of the Sandusky Charter Boat Association. He is survived by his sister, Mary Anne Wiedenheft; brother, Charles Wiedenheft; former wife, Kaiya Tway; three sons, Dan, Scott, and Ryan Fall; grandson, Marshall Fall; and many cousins and their families. Wayne played on the church dartball team and was instrumental in the founding and the success of the Trinity Softball Team, as witnessed by the numerous trophies and pictures on display in the church showcase.


Byron "Barney" W. Oldham, 92, died May 22, 2018. He was born Jan. 25, 1926, at Fairmont, Nebraska.  In 1945, Byron married Marcia Jean Hoffman.  In 1947, their only child, William Byron, was born. Barney served with the Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre and later began his lifetime occupation as an engineer with the Atomic Energy Commission at Los Alamos, N.M. He also worked as an engineer at a nuclear power plant, and later was an engineer with the City of Nebraska City. The desire to be near their son and his family prompted a final move to Sandusky, in 2001. However, his son William passed away in 2005, and Marcia passed in 2012. Byron was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church always attending late service.. “Barney” is survived by his daughter-in-law, Victoria Oldham; and two granddaughters. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky, Ohio.


Evelyn ZellerEvelyn Zellerwas born March 3, 1920, in Huron, Ohio,  She was very active in many groups within the church.  She was a member of the Women of the Church, President of the Bible Study Club, taught Sunday School, and was on the Bereavement Committee. Evelyn used her talents to make table decorations for the fellowship hall.  She also decorated the church at Christmas for many years.  She is survived by her daughter Marlene (Richard) Long, two sons Louis (Jean) Zeller Jr. and Douglas (Vanessa) Zeller Sr.; seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. 
Don Seedorf

Donald Henry Seedorf, 65, of Hamler, Ohio passed away on January 16, 2017 at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo, Ohio. He is survived by his children, Jill (Matt) Conner, Castalia, Ohio; Steven (Mandi) Seedorf, Deshler; Christopher Seedorf (Ashley Mangas), Deshler, and grandchildren, Eli; Claire; Giavonne. When Don lived in the area, he faithfully attended Trinity.  He made several scroll wood carvings as gifts for church members and several of his pieces decorate our church offices and fellowship hall.


Junior "Bud" Gast  90, of Sandusky, formerly of Castalia, passed away unexpectedly early Sunday afternoon, Nov. 20, 2016, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, Sandusky.  He was a veteran, having served honorably in the U.S. Army. He loved to go out fishing. He was a relief man at the Sandusky Ford Motor Company for over 25 years before retiring in 1988.  Junior was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, the U.A.W. Local No. 1216, American Legion Post 83 and AMVETS Post 17. Bud leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Iretta (Lilje) Gast and three sons, Dale, Glenn, and Duane.


 Louise Birkhold 76, died August 9, 2016.  A former music teacher at Huron City Schools, Louise always put others first.  She frequently send church members greeting cards and always had a friend or relative to add to Sunday's prayer list.   At Trinity, she was a past member of the church choir.  She also served as a Sunday lector and was an active member of the Adopt-a-School Mission team.  Louise leaves behind her brother Jon, of Glenmont, and several extended family members.

Ruth Hasse

Ruth Ann (Oetzel) Hasse, 77, died Thursday, May 12, 2016 in Mansfield, TX.  Ruth became part of the Trinity family when she moved to the Commons of Providence.  She was an active member of Trinity and sang in the church choir. She leaves her son, Eric; and daughter, Gretchen; her sisters, Polly, Kay, and Caroline; her grandchildren, Jessica and Larissa; and her great-grandchildren, Casey, Tytus, Eli, Julion, and Savannah.

Tom Driscoll

Thomas Albert Driscolll, age 68, of Sandusky, died unexpectedly Saturday, May 7, 2016. Tom will be greatly missed by his friends at Trinity, his wife Judy (Miller) Driscoll and his  children, Brian Driscoll of Sandusky, and Meredith Driscoll (Dan Dietrich), of Arlington, Va.

Ruth Heishman

Ruth M. Heishman,  92, of Crystal Rock, died Monday, June 29, 2015, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, following a lengthy illness. Ruth was one of the last Tuesday morning quilters at Trinity.  Over the years, she made hundreds of quilts for Lutheran World Relief. In addition to Trinity's sewing circle, she enjoyed cooking and gardening.

Carl DensmoreCarl Devon Densmore, Senior Master Sergeant, USAF, Ret., 86, of Clyde, passed away unexpectedly in his home on Monday morning, March 30, 2015. Carl was a friend of the Trinity congregation. He was married to member Orpha (Pritchard) Densmore for 64 years. 

Gale FriedbergPatricia Gale Friedberg, 67, of Sandusky, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014, in Stein Hospice Care Center. Gale was a long time friend of the Trinity congregation. She resided with church secretary and organist, Jean Holbrook, and when able attended many of Trinity's events and services.

Jerald R. "Jerry" Wobser, age 74, of Bay View, died Sunday morning, October 19, 2014, at his residence following a brief illness.  He played on Trinity's softball and dart ball teams. He was in the U.S.. Army and retired from the City of Sandusky. Jerry loved all wildlife, and would feed the squirrels and birds everyday by his house. He enjoyed attending car shows, flea markets, and swap meets; and loved to work on cars and flower garden.  He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Barb (Heminger) Wobser.

Ruth Kleinoeder died June 25,2014 in the Commons of Providence Memory Unit, Sandusky. Ruth was the mother of Henry (Ellene) Kleinoeder and the loving grandmother of Krista Kleinoeder Schill and Grace and Elise Kleinoeder. The sparkle in her eye was her one great-grandson, Mason Hermes. Ruth  was an active, long-time member of Trinity.  She served on the Altar Committee, was active in the  quilting circle, Bible Study, and cooked for the Bereavement Committee. Ruth was an avid gardner and loved taking care of her family on the farm.

God's good and faithful servant Berk Vassar passed away on August 27, 2014 in the Stein Hospice Care Center after a brief battle with cancer.  Berk was an active member of Trinity.  He was a long time member of Trinity's dartball team and also helped with the Bereavement Meals Committee.

Dorothy "Caryl" Van Wy, 80,  passed away, July 26, 2014, in the Stein Hospice Care Center, after a lengthy illness.  She and her late sister Pauline Wriker enjoyed their service to Trinity by preparing the funeral pall, serving on the bereavement meals committee, and working with the morning quilters.


Kevin C. Wobser

Kevin C. Wobser, beloved son of Mary and Fred Wobser Jr., passed away Monday, July 14, 2014, in Stein Hospice Care Center after a long and courageous battle against cancer. Kevin was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a past member of the softball and dart ball teams. He also served as an usher and helped on the Habitat for Humanity Project.

Son of the congregation Pastor Richard Poock died January 21, 2014 at the age of 89. Born in Sandusky, Ohio, he was a son of the late William and Dorothy Krawetski Poock. Pastor Poock, a retired Lt. Colonel in the USAF, was a Korean War Vet. He served tours as a Chaplain in the U.S., Turkey, England, the Panama Canal and Korea. He also retired as the Associate Pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Aiken S.C.

John Stradtman

John Stradtman died January 9, 2014. John was a life time member of Trinity. Unfortunately, his health kept him from attending services for many years.  When circumstances permitted, John attended late service with his wife Barb. John had been living near his daughter Tricia in the Statesville area.

On Sunday, December 11, 2016, Emily Margaret Strauss, the daughter of Michael Strauss and Regina Werner was received into the Kingdom of God by the waters of Holy Baptism.  Sponsors for Emily are Carrie Lemmert, Brett Strauss, and Jenifer and Andrew Werner.


On Sunday, December 11, 2016, Penlope Anne Miller entered the Kingdom of God through the waters of Holy Baptism.  Penelope is the daughter of John and Jan Marie (McDowell) Miller.  Penelope's sponsors are Chad and Elena McDowell.

Double baptism

On Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016, Remy Jo Schenk, entered the Kingdom of God through the waters of Holy Baptism. Remy Jo is the daughter of Brian and Alyssa (Felske) Schenk. Serving as sponsors are Chris Schnk and Kelly Schenk.


On Sunday, November 29, 2015 Marshall Albert Fall, son of Scott Albert Fall and Danielle Lynn (Hinckley) Preston, was received into the Kingdom of God by the waters of Holy Baptism. Michael Dean Corder and Carrie Ellen Hinckley serve as sponsors. for Marshall.


On September 19, 2015, Allie Rebecca House, the daughter of Amanda (Lynn) and Charles House was baptized. Sponsors are Emily Tordi, Domenico Tordi, Christin Funni, and Bradley Munmey.


On Sunday, April 26, 2015. Ryan David Wiedenhef, son of Mark and Carrie (Schwochow) Wiedenheft was baptized into the Kingdom of God. Clay Schwochow and David Wiedenheft serve as sponsors.


Trinity welcomed two new members to the Kingdom of God on Sunday, April 19, 2015. Titus James Schrenk , son of Jason and Alicia Schrenk, and his mother Alicia Ellen (Lynn) Schrenk were both baptized. Titus' sponsors are Ashley and Daniel Fosnight and Kenneth and Debbie Pfann.  Alicia's sponsors are her parents, Richard and DeAnn Lynn.


 By the waters of Holy Baptism, Brett Jeffery Hirt, son of Jeff and Jessica Hirt, was received into the kingdom of God on 4/12/15. Donnie McCune and Casie Eller were sponsors.

On Sunday, January 11, 2015 by the waters of Holy Baptism, Noah Robert Warner, son of Paul and Andrea (Schuffnecker) Warner was baptized.  Eric Schuffenecker and Sara Warner serve as sponsors for Noah.

Joining Noah in the Kingdom of God was his second cousin, Vincent Joseph Carrozino, son of Dominic and Tracy (Kingsborough) Carrozino.  Andrew Shupp and  Patti Shupp serve as sponsors for Vinny. 

On Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014 by the waters of holy baptism, Beckett Lee Freeman, son of Benjamin Mariscal and Kristen Buder, and Avery Rose Barnett, daughter of Roger Barnett and Lacy Davis were received into the Kingdom of God.  Lacy Davis and Leonardo Mariscal, Jr. serve as sponsors for Beckett, and Kristen Buder and Tom Schippel serve as sponsors for Avery.
